We're old hat at seeing two-dimenional wall decor... framed art for example. Wall sculptures add the third dimension moving out towards you. This captivates...
Earlier in life I used to love sketching my own hand. Being right-handed, I of course sketched my left hand. For a non-artist, I felt my sketches were a good attempt at reproducing my hand in two dimensions. There is something amazing about the human hand and capturing through a pencil sketch on paper gave me pleasure.
A few years ago I had the marvelous opportunity to see an exhibit of Auguste Rodin ("The Thinker") sculptures. One section of the exhibit was of hands. I remember one sculpture of marble of a open-palmed hand on top of a block of marble. It was an arresting work by Rodin. You could say I was in the grip of that hand... ![]()
You can bring this arresting quality to your home with wall sculptures
You can bring this arresting quality to your home with wall sculptures. Unlike the two dimensions of a painting, for instance, a wall sculpture adds a third dimension of beauty to your wall.
When you're looking for wall sculptures but don't quite know exactly what, take a look at eBay. They typically have a fairly large collection of these. It's a great place to get ideas about what's available. You could even find something you love!
Do you like artifacts from different periods of history? Then check out the Museum Store Company. They offer "Ancient Art, Artifacts, Historic Jewelry, and History & Museum Gifts." These items are not just for the archaeology enthusiast. Take a look especially at the Reliefs and Wall Hangings and Sculpture and Statue categories. The latter is less wall type stuff, but might catch your fancy.
Fabulous pieces can be found at The Artful Home. Find wall sculptures under such categories as "Art for the Wall," "Mixed and Other Media," "Murals, Tiles and Wall Reliefs" and "Fiber and Paper." This site is presented by the Guild which brings you pieces of art direct from the artist.
Amazon, of all places, has a large variety of moderate-to-low priced wall sculptures. Even though you might not find pieces that would exude, "made by individual artist," it's possible you'll find something that fits your needs.
Lastly - and I put this last because it is not what you typically think of as sculpture for your walls - is Wall Sculptures by Howard. He will take your uninteresting wall and make it into something attractive.

"The peculiarity of sculpture is that it creates a three-dimensional object in space. Painting may strive to give on a two-dimensional plane, the illusion of space, but it is space itself as a perceived quantity that becomes the peculiar concern of the sculptor. We may say that for the painter space is a luxury; for the sculptor it is a necessity." - Sir Herbert Read
"I sometimes wonder if the hand is not more sensitive to the beauties of sculpture than the eye. I should think the wonderful rhythmical flow of lines and curves could be more subtly felt than seen. Be this as it may, I know that I can feel the heart- throbs of the ancient Greeks in their marble gods and goddesses." - Helen Keller
